Position Summary

The Warehouse Manager, in collaboration with the Warehouse Assistant, Field Manager, Field staff and Director of Operations, ensures that the warehouse and greater Northwind facility can be leveraged to the benefit of the company. By creating, communicating and enforcing clear processes around material procurement and staging, vehicle and equipment storage and maintenance, as well as general organization, cleanliness and safety, the Warehouse Manager helps ensure efficient and profitable operations for our construction projects. The Warehouse Manager oversees and is responsible for a significant portion of Northwind assets, in the form of our building, vehicles, and project inventory. The Warehouse Manager is expected to leverage internal and broader industry resources to evolve and improve the function and value of the assets under their control.  



Essential Functions and Responsibilities


Warehouse Organization:

  • Creates & enforces a thoughtful and practical warehouse layout - ensuring appropriate space for various materials, tools, and more 
  • Ensures permanent and temporary signage and labeling is accurate and helpful for other teammates to navigate the warehouse 
  • Shapes and enforces logistics processes related to materials packouts and vehicle reloading, job kitting, and crew load out 
  • Ensures the general cleanliness and safety of the warehouse by ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are stored appropriately and safety standards are followed
  • Provides direction and coaching to the Warehouse Assistant in their efforts to execute on inventory control, job kitting, maintenance, and other tasks and processes 


Inventory Management:

  • Sets and maintains inventory levels of frequently used products through proper forecasting, vendor relations, and logistics management 
  • In coordination with Northwind management and other trade partners, keeps updated on changing market conditions and product offerings and adjusting inventory strategies accordingly
  • In coordination with Northwind management, establishes and reviews budgets for the Warehouse, Fleet, and Facility needs
  • Participates in basic accounting functions as it pertains to procurement and inventory management and reports to management on the needs of the Warehouse and Northwind assets accordingly
  • Works with Project Managers and other teammates to ensure “Bill of Materials” lists are complete and prepared for order 
  • Creates and submits POs and processes receipts for inventory and project-specific purchases and works with bookkeeper to ensure Purchase orders and receipts are in alignment with vendor invoices 
  • Coordinates product deliveries and collaborates with vendors to ensure smooth, safe, on-site delivery 
  • Establishes relationships with vendors and leverages those relationships towards improved processes, efficiencies, and/or financial benefits 


Facilities & Fleet:

  • Assists in the overall maintenance of vehicles and equipment by keeping maintenance logs, scheduling service, and performing basic repair when needed 
  • Helps ensure facilities and property functionality by performing basic maintenance and/or delegating tasks or coordinating vendors 
  • Participates in the “Fleet, Equipment & Warehouse” committee and provides information to management about expected needs and budgets


Qualifications & Requirements


Education Requirements:

  • High school or equivalent


Preferred Education:

  • Associates or greater in Warehouse Management or related field


Preferred Experience:

  • 2-years in warehouse management 
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct, HubSpot, and ADP


Knowledge and Skills That Lead to Success

  • Excellent Organizational and Time Management skills 
  • Fluent in Google Suite MS Office Products 
  • Excellent communication and familiarity with vendor relations 
  • Familiarity with basic accounting functions, structures, and report 
  • Experience in Solar Industry 
  • Forklift and/or other equipment certification 
  • Works well in a team environment


Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, kneel, bend, walk, climb, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to lift/move materials of 50 pounds, occasionally overhead, unassisted 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, confined spaces, and extreme temperatures 
  • Occasionally performing work in tight spaces such as an attic, crawl space or closets
