About Northwind Solar
Northwind Solar designs and installs solar power and battery storage systems for homes, farms, nonprofits, and businesses across Central Wisconsin. Established in 2007, and worker-owned since 2013, our cooperative has installed small-scale, distributed solar in communities like Wausau, Marshfield, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Appleton, and Oshkosh.
We’re a full‑service, in‑house team, backed by a 10‑year labor warranty and a dedicated service department.

Central Wisconsin’s Worker‑Owned Solar Cooperative
Northwind Solar is owned by the people who do the work. Nobody works on commission, and the person who installs your system is likely still here when you call in year eight.
All work is done in-house by NABCEP-credentialed designers and licensed electricians — no subcontractors, no gaps in responsibility.
We specialize in everything you need to make your solar PV installation successful, including:
- Utility interconnection and permitting
- Installation and system commissioning
- Ongoing service and support
- Site evaluation and solar resource assessment
- System design and financial analysis
- Incentive applications and grant writing
A Referral‑Driven, Worker‑Owned Company
In 2013, Northwind Solar transitioned into a worker‑owned cooperative. This business model strengthens our company by:
- Empowering employees to be co‑owners
- Using a democratic approach to major decisions
- Aligning the long‑term health of the business with the long‑term success of our customers

Today, our loyal staff of member‑owners means your system is designed, installed, and supported by the people who own the company, not a distant parent corporation. That ownership mindset is a big reason so many of our projects come from referrals and repeat customers.
