Solar Story: How Linda Lowered Energy Costs and Added Backup Power
When Linda built her home in 2014 in the Town of Algoma, just west of Oshkosh, she created a place designed for the future. Going solar became one more step in making that home more efficient, more resilient, and more aligned with her values.
For Linda, the decision to go solar came down to two clear goals:
“Lower utility costs. Lessen my carbon footprint.” Like many homeowners, she wanted to make a practical investment that would save money over time while also being better for the planet.

Since installing her solar electric system, Linda has seen those benefits firsthand. “Lower utility cost for sure,” she said. She also added battery backup, which has given her even more control over how her home uses energy. As Linda explained, it “lets me use less power from the grid and no interruption in power when the grid went down briefly a couple of times.”
Linda described her experience working with the Northwind Solar team simply and clearly: “They were great. Very professional. Everything was clean when they were finished.” As her energy goals expanded, she continued working with Northwind, including having the team install an electric vehicle charger in her garage after purchasing an EV.
One of the biggest benefits of choosing Northwind, Linda said, is that “everything works seamlessly.” She especially appreciates the visibility the Tesla battery app gives her: “The Tesla battery app lets me know exactly what is happening with my system.” That kind of insight has helped her stay connected to her home’s energy use and performance.
Her move toward cleaner energy did not stop with solar and battery storage. Linda shared, “I asked Woody for a water heater replacement recommendation. He suggested an electric heat pump, which I had installed, and so now I am using less natural gas.” That upgrade helped make her home even more efficient and further reduced her reliance on fossil fuels.
Linda would absolutely recommend solar to others because, as she put it,
“Going solar makes financial sense and it is better for the planet.” Her story shows how one decision can lead to a broader shift toward smarter, cleaner home energy, with long-term benefits for both the homeowner and the environment.
